New Smiles

February 26, 2005
By csvensson in Kaiya

Well, the first few non-gas related smiles have started to appear, albeit it fleetingly.  We’ve yet to really capture one on film (well, electrons) because they usually only last a second or two, but we’re working on it. In other news, the nurse came by the house for her mini-check up and in that weigh-in, she was a very healthy 9lbs. 12oz.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year! On Monday, Kaiya had her one month checkup with Dr. Clementino and all looked ok. Her weight was up to a whopping 8lbs. 2oz. It was such an increase, the doc suggested we slow down the feedings otherwise we’ll have a weight gain issue. We knew those eating genes would kick in at some point.

Growth Spurt

February 1, 2005
By csvensson in Kaiya

Well we have a little growth spurt going on at the moment. We did have her shifting to three hours between feedings, but as the book tells us, occasionally around the third week, there will be a growth spurt where they will wake themselves up to eat more frequently than they had been. So we’re partially back on a two hour schedule again for like half the day or so.

She went for her first “real” walk outside today. We put her in the stroller and walked around the grounds of our community (which are beautiful on a day like today that was perfectly sunny and about 75-80 degrees F). Mind you, we’ve carried her outside a bit up and down the path outside our townhouse for a quick 10-15 minute jaunt several times before, but this was the first fully long, multi-mile walk for her (and for Sharon) since the labor.

Other than this, we really don’t have a lot of new things to report. She still plays on her mat. We still read her books. She still gets baths. She’s still pooping lots.

2.5 Week Update

January 25, 2005
By csvensson in Uncategorized

There isn’t a lot of new news to report at this point as we’re settling into a routine. Kaiya’s next doctor’s appointment isn’t until the first week of February. While we haven’t been weighing her, the weight gain seems fairly consistent at this point as she’s getting more and more difficult to carry. Also she’s less yellow and more active/alert so the Billy Rubin must be continuing to go down. Continued…

Getting Calmer

January 20, 2005
By csvensson in Uncategorized

The last few days have us calming down slightly. We’re getting more sleep (thank God) and Kaiya is gaining weight. At the pediatrician this morning she weighed in at a hefty 5lbs. 14oz. She’s finally above her birth weight and the pressure is relieved as far as health issues go. Continued…

Weigh-ins

January 16, 2005
By csvensson in Kaiya

I’m reminded of the weigh-ins from my wrestling days as we take Kaiya to the doctor on Sunday morning, only the point here is to gain weight, not lose it. Thankfully, the eating genes are kicking in and Kaiya managed to gain 7oz. since her last weigh in. She’s up to 5lbs. 9oz. She continues to eat more and more as the days go by. Continued…

Kaiya’s Birth

January 11, 2005
By csvensson in Kaiya

So I’m soundly sleeping at about 4:00 AM on January 11th, 2005. I think I was dreaming of clowns with funny hats (the circus variety, not the type you probably work with) and they were offering me a new job. They were also juggling plates and leading around small poodles on brightly colored leashes. Many of my favorite things. Except poodles. I’m not a huge fan of poodles, especially the big ones that get shaved into all sorts of crazy poofy shapes. They look ridiculous. Anyway, I digress… Continued…

In an effort to have one last little vacation before the utter zaniness that Kaiya will bring when she’s born in February, Sharon and I took a long weekend in Cabo. Continued…
