Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year! On Monday, Kaiya had her one month checkup with Dr. Clementino and all looked ok. Her weight was up to a whopping 8lbs. 2oz. It was such an increase, the doc suggested we slow down the feedings otherwise we’ll have a weight gain issue. We knew those eating genes would kick in at some point.

Anyway, her reflexes are good. Her muscle strength is excellent. She can easily hold up her head and look around a room as we carry her. When she’s on her belly, she can raise her head almost 90 degrees and look around (though this causes her some frustration). Her legs are strong enough to hold her up/push her up.

The only caveat in all of this was that her belly was a little distended which the doc attributes mostly to gas. She told us to pick up some anti-gas medication and to use it at every other feeding. In addition, we’re going to have an ultrasound of her belly done at the Children’s Hospital just to make sure everything is ok in there (the doc is just being conservative).

In other news, she loves her mirror with lights and sounds that Nana sent her. We put it in her bassinette and triggering it instantly causes her to be mesmerized, stopping whatever whining she was about to start cold in its tracks. She also still gets plenty of time on her activity mat and can now reach up and touch the stuffed animals that hang from the rafters. She’ll also hang onto a rattle if we put it in her hand (kind of).
